Sense of Odour
Through much experimentation, it has been found that ocean acidification is also impairing the sense of smell of fish. In an experiment that imitated the level of acidity scientists expect by 2100 (pH 7.8), clown fish swam toward predators, because their sense of smell had apparently been damaged. Following these experiments, that salmon are not being able to find their natal streams because their sense of smell was impaired is a very real possibility, according to Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA).
